Sydney Sikhs Unite against Gurmeet Ram Raheem

In synonymous with the ‘Punjab Bandh’ in India on 22nd May 2007, the Sikhs of Sydney also gathered peacefully in front of the office of Consulate General of India in heart of Sydney, to express their resentment on the recent untoward mis-happenings in Punjab.About 100-150 Sikhs from all parts of Sydney and from all walks of life (Businessmen, Servicemen, Taxi Drivers, Students, representatives of all the main Gurdwaras and many bibies) united under one banner to show their bitterness on the blasphemous act of mocking the great 10th Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji by a dera-head in Punjab.Latter a petition, signed by almost 3000 Sikhs in Sydney was also submitted to Mr. Sujan R Chinoy, the Consulate General of India in Sydney, mentioning that the Sikhs from all over Australia are hurt due to this untoward incident. Mr. Chinoy was briefed about the current mis-happenings in Punjab and it was specifically stressed that, not only the Sikh community in India but all over the world is upset over this ill-fated incident.
Mr. Chinoy expressed his heartfelt feelings to the Sikh community of Sydney and assured that he would immediately forward the petition to Government of India to showing the sentiments of the Sikhs of Australia are feeling at the moment.
