Few tips for Sikh Sangat who may wish to go for yatra:

Got our Pak Visa from Australia (Canberra – there is no Visa Service in Pak Consulate Sydney). The fee is AUD 70 each. The visa forms and other info can be obtained from http://www.pakistan.org.au/
· Getting a visa in India (for family members living there) is very difficult if they want to visit outside a Jatha like Visakhi etc. Even if one manage to get visa for a member (say father), even that is limited for one place only i.e. Nankana Sahib or Lahore or Hassan Abdaal etc. Visa on Aust Passport can take you anywhere. They check the passports before providing accomodation in Gurdwaras and make an entry in a book.
· Got Pak currency from bank inside the border area (India Side). There are many other places both sides of border but they offer low rates. Rate was roughly 1 INR=1.30 PAK Rupees.
· In almost all gurdwaras, Bhai Sahib will come to you asking for converting Indian Currency to Pak Currency. They do real bargain starting from very low.
· The climate was exactly same as in Amritsar but bit colder in Hassan Abdal as its on some hieght.
· All Gurdwaras have caretakers and but still not very well maintained. Most of them have lots of land attached and have big buildings. The old structures provide real sense of our rich heritage and take us very close to the times of our Guru Sahibaans. Janam Asthan (Nankana Sahib) still has marks of bullets and a Jand (tree) of the time of Ghalughara when it was liberated from Mahants.
· High security (Gun men) in all gurdwaras due to recent blasts in Samjhauta Express and also due to oncoming Visakhi.
· In all gurdwara's where there is no parkash of Guru Granth Sahib, there is always Panj Granthi on a high stool (Peerah Sahib) covered with neat Rumala. The place is maintained by a muslim caretaker who will ask you for some money in the end.
· The driver who had thorough knowledge of Sikhism and had full respect for Sikhism, always covered his head, removed his shoes, washed hand & feet and bowed before Guru Granth Sahib, took Parshad/Langar. Despite all this he was very firm in his own religion and didn't miss his special Friday prayers.
